Sent all core units except the Bruckenpioniere towards the eastern hex. Not much action here. One tank can be placed in the central part I guess. The rest and all aux headed through the pass. The extra recons were very good to soften up the defences. Could have made BV-4. Lost one aux inf. Got a Me-109E-3 as reward. Round 2: Gerona Prestige: 2090 Buy: 2xPz IVC, 1x 17 K18, 1x PSW 231 Left: 194 Army: TK: 2x PzIID[0,0], 2x Pz IVC[0,1] REC: 2x PSW 231[0,0] INF: 1x Sturmpioniere[2], 1x Bruckenpioniere[1], 1x Infanterie[1] ART: 1x 10.5 cm Regiment[1], 2x 17 K18 FIG: 1x Me-109E-3[0P] Total: 13 units, no leaders and some spanish aux units. Very much like the original SSI spain round. Divided forces in 2 groups, and attacked. There is only one way to clear the road. Multiple attacks. Art is not much use, inf can be a little helpful, especially in taking out recons, art and tanks in cities and mountains. Collected some extra exp for 3 turns, and then made a BV. No losses. No losses. Made to equally sized groups. Group east consisted mainly of tanks and recon took the eastern city, and then headed south. Group West had some more inf and the art. The took the central city, and them headed south, where they joined with East and waited 3 turns. It is smart to attack the central city from the south. Got a first attack recon leader and an influence art leader. Got a SIG 33 Bison as reward. Round 4: Tolvarjarvi (Finland) Prestige: 1338 Buy: 2x Pz IVC, 2x PSW 231 Left: 498 Army: TK: 2x PzIID[1,1], 4x Pz IVC[0,0,1,1] REC: 4x PSW 231[0,0,1,2*] (First strike) INF: 2x Sturmpioniere[0,2], 1x Bruckenpioniere[2], 1x Infanterie[1] ART: 1x 10.5 cm Regiment[1], 3x 17 K18[0,1,1*], 1x SIG 33 Bison[0] (Influence) FIG: 2x Me-109E-3[0,1P] Total: 21 units, 2 leaders Easy round. Could have made a BV-7. With so many recons and tanks, the russians are blown away. Even their KV1 and T35 donīt survive long. Got a leader tank (Shock tactics). Only 3-4 rounds without snow. Remember to defend the taken VHīs. Sent weak units out east. A few units to be killed here. Donīt mover the Finnish troops. If they saty they easily survive. Left 3 tanks to fight on the peninsula in the middle of the map. Group North (most tanks) attacked the first defense line from the south, then headed for the NW city, where some heavy tanks wait, and then headed south, where they gained exp for 4-5 turns. Group South spent some rounds clearing the city on the other side of the river, then took the S city. Be patient, you have plenty of time, then turned round, and took the SE non- victory city. Tip: With bridge units, you can attack the art in the middle, and take that one out at first, then the rest is easy. Got an inf leader (Fire discipline). Lost one aux at the southern cit by a stupid mistake. Almost only used core units for the battle. It was quite funny to have the long range Pz IID tanks to finish off weak units that tried to escape J. Got a lot of leaders and exp in this one. Made to battlegroups. Group south cleared the starting city, then turned south, avoided the crossing near the airfield, since it is full of art, and attacked the southern city. I waited for the french to come out, and killed them one by one. The continued to take the SW city, that didnīt expect the attack to come from here. Group North had some problems taking out the first city. It took 3-4 turns. In the end I won because I had better and more units. Continued west and then turned south. Only light resistance in these areas. A few fighters and bombers. Could have made a BV-6 but took all cities except 2 instead. Got a Pz IIIH as reward. Got a recon movement leader on a 17 K18 Fuck !!!. Only a limited number of units can be placed. My army was miserable in the end, and I lost 5 italien units. Still the core units gained much exp. Some of the OS tanks were damaged a bit. The enemy has lots of tanks, better than mine, and lots of recon, that a bloody difficult to wipe out and bloody deadly. Bastards took out one of my 300 exp tanks L L L. Group North advanced fast to the first city, waited out of range from the art, and the english came out one by one, and could be killed. I waited long since the British kept getting reinforcements. The next city was easier. I just blew it away with 3 art.. Group south followed the same tactic with the first city, where there are lots of armor. I sent some of the units further east, and actually got this hex before I took (30,21). (30,21) was taken by sacrificing 2 Italian units, and then making a crazy attack with my pioniere that lost 6 out of 9 SP. Got a leader fighter and inf. Round 8: ?? Easier than the last round. Made 3 groups. Group North stayed near the first city, and took out the english one by one, as they came out to attack. After the city had been taken, the units were sent east and south. Group East headed directly for the E city. Here they followed the same tactic, and finally stormed the city. It costed some damage to 2 OS tanks. Group South headed directly for the southern city. Be patient, you have plenty of time. There are 5 fighters around, so take care. Last turn BV. Lost some italien units, and 3 panzers were damaged plus the fighter and some inf got damaged.. I donīt understand it. It is the beginning of the war, and the russians have plenty of KV-1, KV-2 and T34. All of these are better than the german ones. The Pz IIIH can maybe equal them, but they are unexperienced. To make things worse, the russians tanks have 200-300 exp. How did they get them ?? As extra spice, they have some nasty Ba-10 recons. These have really deadly attacks. They can take 4 SP and an 15 SP Pz IVC !!!. Oh, and by the way. 400 exp fighters show up, and there are more range 5 art around. First time I got deadlocked in this round, but then I changed tactics- concentration of force. All units were concentrated in the northern and central deployment zone. Both groups headed directly for city (25,6). They moved slowly with panzer in front and on the flanks. The russians attack with a few units a time, and then they can be taken out. (It would have been nasty with all of them at once ). After some turns the city had only a 3 tanks, some inf left and art and AA, and I stormed it. Mainly tanks were used. The whole army now turned south towards city (33,15). The russians tanks are getting fewer, and it was easily taken. I got a bit too eager, and a T34 attacked my flank. The bastard wiped out one of my weak recons. 7 SP in one attack dang L. Then the group went east both ways around the lake to city (38,6). Not very difficult either. I could have made BV-4, but the Russians have plenty of prestige, so I decided to get some exp. Many of my OS tanks and inf had taken damage. The planes and art were intact. Thx for the First strike leader. Furthermore the Aggressive attack fighter is really efficient in taking out tanks. From the last round I knew I had to keep my army together. I used the 5 weakest units to defend the southern bridge, since I guessed a crossing here would be very difficult (I was right). In the end I got a bit careless and was spotted here. That cost me one Pz IIIH. Very stupid. Therefore just keep these units in defense. One T34 came out and was killed, otherwise no action (unless you play stupid like I did L). The remaining units all headed for the central and northern crossing. Bombed the Russians art, and sent in strong panzers via the nortern crossing. Very effective tactic it proved. Almost no damage. Aircover is important since there are many fighters and bombers. Split the group into 2. One headed for the NE corner. Go via the 2 airfields and take out the Russian art first. You have plenty of time here. I cleared the city at BV-8. The rest goes towards the eastern supply hex. Not that well defended. Then turned south and cleared the art and AA from the large city. Now the defenders crossed the river and killed the inf units. Finally all art was concentrated on the last city. Use art to take out Russian art (3 pieces). Could have made BV-5, but wanted more exp. The Russians must receive tons of prestige, since they bought 3 units per round !!! none survived off course J. Got a T34 Vierlingsflak as reward. Tough one. You can only place a limited number of units. I sent in 3 tanks, 3 art, 2 recons and 2 inf. Proved to be a good combination. Almost all of these had 500 exp and 15 SP. In the end only a few were undamaged, but I didnīt loose any of them J. Lost some aux inf, but rather them than my core units. The first 3 turns are easy with no resistance, then you reach the city gates, and the fun begins. It is packed with inf, AA, art and tanks. I set up my defense, and as usual a few came out each round. They were easily taken out. When it started to cool of with the attacks, I started attacking. Ouch he hit back like hell. 3 tanks, 3 inf and some recons right in my face. To make things much worse he sent in his second air strike now (I had already wiped out 4 planes!!). I had big problems, and lost some aux units here. It took some rounds too to get air superiority again. By then one of my 15 SP fighters were down to 2 SP !. After this attack he didnīt have many good units left, and I stormed the first hex. Shortly after I stormed the second. Really nice with my 3 15 SP art as backup here J. Could have made BV-3 but decided to teach him a lesson. Russians have plenty of good tanks (though in this period of the war they were pretty fucked, and the tank crews were unexperienced !!) and what is even worse, some deadly Yak 9T fighters. Forget using Me-109 here, they are too weak. The Yaks have 400 exp, which is not realistic at all. The russian pilots were scared of even starting missions in late ī42. I know this is just a game, but still some realism would be nice. Code word again is concentration of force. Sent the Pz IVD an inf + an AA down south to guard the bridge at (15,28). Do not cross it unless you have many many tanks and art. I sent everything else againt the 2 first bridges, and then towards the airfield. The enemy is scattered all over, but with long range art he is easily killed. USE AA COVER or you will get hurt bad !!!. After the airfield I split the army in 2 equaly sized groups. One turned north, took the hex (a bit hard) and the NE hex (easier), then turned south and attacked the SE city in the back. The other group turned south from the airfield. It was supposed only to take the central hex at (20,28), but I saw the SE hex was only light defended and took that one first. I then had 9-10 rounds to go, which was just enough for taking the last hex. Lots of art and AA here, plus some good tanks and inf. Luckily I had even more art + some 15 SP range 2 tanks J. Didnīt loose any units, but took some scratches on the OS units. Last turn BV, could have made BV-1. Got a 250/9 as reward. The Romanians in the NE corner are not attacked that hard, and can take care of themselves. One of their recons got down to 1 SP, but I didnīt loose any of them (and they didnīt run away like in real life J). My core units were split in 2 groups. Group East headed for the Eastern VH. A few tanks and inf on the way, but nothing serious. Could have made BV-6 with this group, but allowed him to buy units instead. He must receive tons of prestige, because I killed more than 12 new units here. Group North headed towards the central hex and then the NW hex. More tanks here, but the Pz IVF2 and Tigers are so superior, that I didnīt have any problems. Had to send a few units out the close a gap in the western side, when he tried to got through here. He didnīt succedd off couse J. Biggest problem was again the Yak fighters. My 200 exp fighter got shot down to 1 SP !! I ran away J. The 500 exp were untouchable JJ. AI is set to be aggressive, which gives some funny results. A 12 SP cavalry unit attacked a 15 SP Tiger on open ground !! I didnīt loose any points. He was annihilated ! Not good odds J. Made a last tun BV. Could have made BV-4. Got a Marder IIIM as reward. This time you have to split your army a bit more though. Many 2 g roups equaly strong. Group north took the hex at (17,14) and then the NE corner. After the first VH a few tanks were ordered south, since action was sparse on this part of the front. Group South took the VH at (12,26) and at the same time fought a few tanks on the plains. I was in shortage of tanks here since the russians keep sending tanks and range 2 SU AT. These are nasty against inf and recons. With the reinforcements from group North I could make progress and take the hexes in the SE part of the map. Lots of fighters and bombers again. Weather is bad though, so they are no bigger problem. Could have made BV-3. Got a StuG IV as reward. A fairly easy round but I played bad. I made 3 army groups. Group North attacked the northern part of the central city and then rallied along the northern part of the map. Medium resistance but no real problems. Group Center spent some time taking the first city and the continued east in the central part of the map. A bit more resistance here, but still nothing hard. Group south should never have been formed. It was the smallest group and Isent it directly towards the SE city from the bottom. BIG mistake. I didnīt have enough units to do this, and a 500+ exp pioniere unit was blown away by a SU-122 L. Furthermore the Marder was lost. I retreated the group and sent it towards the city NW of it, where it teamed up with group Central. I was so angry theat I just attacked the last cities straight on, which costed some scratches on my OS yanks. Could have made BV-7 !!!, so there was absolutely no reason the make the attack with group South. Should have kept it together with Central LL. Lots of russian airplanes as usual, but they didnīt do that much harm. You start out in the NE corner, and the americans come from the SW. And there are a lot of them. The first 9 rounds I was in defense, because they just kept on coming. Then it slowed off, and I could move out and take the VHīs. I took the airfield in round 1, which is a wise thing to do. Then I made a defense line going from the river south of the airfield, and along the top of the hill in the middle of the map. The line was finihed with the western river. I put Tigers in front, with lots of art and AA behind them. The US didnīt have a chance. Just take out their recons, and they run directly into your line, and get killed. When you shift to attack mode, there are many clusters with 2 art and 1 AA. Just blow them up with your own art. I got a little to risky when I was about to attack the last cities. I thought they only had art and AA left, but suddenly lots of tanks and recons showed up ??. Lost my 250/9 and took a nasty revenge. Could have made BV-6 !!. A fair amount of planes, but no real problems. I figured I had plenty of time, which was right. 2 groups were made. Group East (fastest units meaning Panthers and SdKfz 6/2īs plus half of the art) headed along the coast line to the E VH and then south, avoiding the bridges in the center of the map. Medium resistance, especially around the E city. Blew up the units from the distance (the range 6-7 21cm K18 are excellent J at this). Group West headed south. Progress was slow because of MANY units and hard terrain. With massive art backup I didnīt have any problems. In the air the British have Spitfires, that are better than my FWīs !!. I never attacked them directly, but always had my AA shooting at them. Could have made BV-6. Got a JgdTiger as reward, lets test it. Placed 2 15 SP Panthers. The first thing I did was to take the french airfield . That gave me a Brilliant victory. I figured this was not the point, and thought that maybe I should kill all allied units. They have a lot of ships, and I didnīt have any bombers, so this could not be the point either. I then decided to play 16-18 rounds (to the BV limit). In the end I was pushed all the way back to the German VH, but they didnīt get it. They had 2 inf units left. I took the airfield with my reinforcements. I donīt know the best way to play this map. I tried to stop the allied on the beach, but there are too many of them, and I couldnīt hold them. I killed some and then withdrew in the direction of the VH. In the passes the US made suicide attacks on my tanks, and that was actually the most efficient way of killing them. Just place the tanks in open or rough. Got a Tiger III as reward, thank you. The Americans attack as insane. I thought I was going to attack and headed towards the river. A recon appeared in front of my units, and I guessed I should put up my defense I was right. He threw everything he had against me. Self pulled range 4 art, range 2 AT and range 2 tanks (these 2 types were the worst fuckers). These bastards took out one of my 500+ Panthers LLL ALL US units have 400+ exp and 13+ SP L. Again I was nagging about missing realism. The Americans have just landed in Europe, how the f did they get so much exp, and why the f do they only have the latest and best equipment. Where is the average foot soldier ??. Hmm nothing much to do against this, so I hit back hard. I tried to push on, so I could use the river as natural defense line, but I didnīt reach it, before the wave was almost over after turn 8-9. The funniest was when he sent in his second wave of 2 fightes and 3 bombers. They all attacked, but I didnīt loose any SP J. Next round all were shot down !! J. After having stopped his attack my tanks were looking like shit. Only 4 had more than 10 SP left. Rallied against the 2 VHīs, and had just placed all my art so they could blow up his range 6-7 art !!, when he redeployed 5 strong units at both hexes ?? huh, I panicked a bit and withdrew my units a little after killing 3 of his. He came out of art cover and I smashed the rest. No reason to panick it seamed J. Moved the art back in position, and blew up both VHīs. Could have made BV-5. Time is set quite fine. I played a bit defensively, and still could have made BV-4. Made 2 battlegroups. Group East startet out taking city (38,17). Bombed the US art first and killed the AT and tanks one by one. Then I sent in an aux panther over the river from the north. This tricked all the tanks and AT to leave the city defences (and kill my panther L) but meant that I could storm the city and attack the AT and tanks in the back J. I then sent the group south. They didnīt meet resistance before the southern cirty. Here they teamed up with the 3 aux panthers. They had been standing on the eastern side of the river, and had tricked 3-4 AT and tanks to come out. Therefore the city was only light defended, and easily taken. Got surprised by an attack in my western (undefended) flank, and lost an aux art. Finally sent South towards city (7,27), that was quite easy. Group North took city (31,9) and then turned west towards the NW city. They ran into heavier resistance and only made slow progress. Plenty of time though, so just be patient. In the end both groups attacked city (4,20) that was completely surrounded. A real kessel-schlacht. It looked really good with some small US inf and AT-guns and my 9 pieces of art and 6 heavy tanks around them. Gave them a massive bombardent for 4 turns and then took the city. My 3 fighters had no problems controlling the sky, but I lost my bridge unit to a nasty US bomber in one attack ?? (it had 10 SP L). General opinion. Fairly good campaign. Grade 7/10. Lots of good rounds and good resistance. Best thing is the continous deployment of enemy units in both ground and air. This means you can never relax. Bad thing is that the enemy ALWAYS have the best equeipment and in the end all of them have 400+ exp. This is not realistic and it would have been more fun with more units, but less experienced. Prestige is managed well, maybe a little too high, since I could always OS many of many of my units.
